Mid-summer update

WARNING: This is a good news – bad news post.

The GOOD NEWS – Troop 35 scouts are having the time of their lives. That is what summer is for and that’s what keeps all of us motivated in January and February. Our scouts have been to summer camp at Camp Tesomas and we had a crew 4 scouts and 2 adults at Sea Base in Florida off US 1 near Islamorada, Florida in early July.

and the fun they had in south Florida.

MORE GOOD NEWS, on this afternoon (Wed. – 7/22) a crew of 10 leave the Naperville train station for Cimarron, New Mexico and Philmont Scout Ranch.  The crew will be on the trail hiking through the Sangre de Christo Mountains for ten days. They had their final shakedown Sunday afternoon at Blackwell Forest Preserve. Look for facebook updates and a post with photos or two.

AND even MORE GOOD NEWS. Troop 35 will be camping at Lake Carroll THIS weekend July 24-26, so get your permission slip completed and be at the church on time!

Several scouts have been busy completing their Eagle Projects – this summer before their final year in scouts. To quote a famous scoutmaster, “You gotta wanna” in every part of your scouting life. Wreath sales pay for high adventure and the hard work of the Eagle Scout lasts a lifetime.

But there is a little BAD NEWS to balance the good. All GOOD things must come to an end and as of this post there are 28 days left of summer vacation. So get out there, jump, jump in, and seize the summer – one day at a time. Summer comes only once a year, that’s why it’s special.

Reminders…..

  • Class B’s are the troop uniform for scout meetings until after Labor Day. The last meeting for Class B’s September 1.
  • School resumes on Wednesday, August 19th for Wheaton public schools.
  • Get your Lake Carroll camping permission slip in!

Enjoy the 28 days of summer remaining!
