Scout Sunday took on special relevance this year as February 2020 marks the 100th anniversary since scouting officially formed a relationship with the Methodist Church. During the church service, Gary United Methodist Church honored scouts who completed the “God and Church” religious emblem program, including two scouts from Troop 35.
Troop 35 served up cobbler for the celebration at Gary United Methodist Church. The congregation enjoyed peach, apple, and chocolate cherry. Troop 35 also displayed decades of historical artifacts.
According to the United Methodist Church, United Methodist congregations have provided a home base for more scouts than any other denomination in America. Today, 3,111 United Methodist churches charter 9,611 scout units serving 309,739 youth, including Troop 35 at Gary United Methodist Church.
